The challenge
Exceptional deployment
The Prangl team carried out a special assignment at Hallein: AustroCel, a manufacturer of environmentally-friendly pulp and bio-energy, commissioned the family business with demanding lifting work. The goal of the project was to replace massive heat exchanger packs - each 5 metres long, 3.4 metres wide, 1.6 metres high and weighing about 28 tonnes - which needed to be moved precisely and safely.
Our solution
Precise planning
The special conditions on-site presented the Prangl team with exciting challenges. Tightly confined spaces, high buildings and numerous towers required accurate planning. Several on-site visits and precise measurements resulted in a convincing concept that ensured smooth implementation and compliance with the planned downtime of the plant.
700 tonne telescopic crane
The latest achievement of the Prangl fleet was used here for the first time: a 700 tonne telescopic crane; a mobile heavy-duty crane of the latest generation. This 8-axle crane stands out with its impressive load-bearing capacity values, exceptional power and high flexibility - ideal for the demands of this project. The crane was optimally prepared for the requirements with TY-anchoring, a 69 metre main boom and 120 tonne ballast.
Works steps with millimetre precision
In the first step, the hall wall was opened at the height of the heat exchanger with the help of a 160 tonne telescopic crane, followed by assembly of an auxiliary structure. Then, a specially designed rail system was installed which made it possible to slide in and out as well as lift the heat exchanger packs. The precisely positioned 700 tonne mobile crane first lifted out the smaller components of the old heat exchanger. The main pack of the old heat exchanger was pushed out and safely removed by the heavy-duty crane. Then, the new heat exchanger was placed on the auxiliary structure with millimetre precision, inserted and installed.
A complete success
Thanks to detailed preliminary planning and precise preparation, the operation went exactly according to plan - no surprises or delays. An additional order that was won thanks to the convincing concept, comprised of the disassembly and replacement of a pipe bridge using a 500 tonne telescopic crane and was implemented just as smoothly. The operation in Hallein was a complete success for the Prangl team. The first performance of the new 700 tonne mobile crane also went perfectly. The satisfaction of the client once again highlights successful collaboration.
